Follow Melissa’s privacy request process, complete the email confirmation code, and separate database deletion from advertising unsubscribes.

To remove your information from Melissa, open its Consumer Privacy Request Form and request deletion and the privacy choices you want. Melissa's current form uses a one-time email confirmation code: asking for the code does not submit your request. You must enter it to complete submission. If the form does not suit your address or you need to submit multiple records, the page lists 1-800-800-6245 extension 4 as an alternative.

Last checked October 3, 2026. We inspected the public form and current privacy notices without entering personal details, requesting a code or submitting a removal. Some request choices depend on the identifying information and state selected; screenshots show only the stage actually inspected.

What does a Melissa removal cover?

Melissa provides address validation, identity verification, data enrichment and related database services. Its policy distinguishes data supplied by its customers from information gathered through third-party licenses, brokers and public sources. A deletion request therefore needs to identify the consumer record you mean, rather than simply asking to close an account you may never have created.

The general privacy policy says people can request removal from Melissa Lookups and other database products regardless of their state or country. The web form, however, presents a U.S. state selector.

If you cannot accurately complete that interface, use the published assistance route. Do not select an incorrect residence just to reveal a button.

The opt-out guides hub covers other providers separately. Similar names and addresses in two databases do not mean one request reaches both.

Complete the form without missing confirmation

Use the official Consumer Privacy Request Form. The opening stage labels email, first and last name, street address, city, ZIP code and state. A second address line and phone fields also appear. Follow the visible required-field markers instead of assuming every field must be filled.

Choose the residence information that actually applies to you. In our inspection, selecting California before supplying matching information produced a prompt to fill in name, address, city and ZIP code. That behavior matters: request options can be conditional, and their absence on an empty form is not proof that deletion is unavailable.

  • Prepare an email inbox you can access during the request.
  • Enter accurate matching details for the record you want addressed.
  • Choose deletion and any separate sale, sharing or advertising preferences shown for your circumstances.
  • Review the form before asking it to send a confirmation code.
  • Enter the received code and look for the actual submission result.
  • Save the confirmation and the request choices you selected.

The form's instructions explicitly distinguish sending a code from submitting a request. If you stop after receiving an email, the process may remain incomplete. Check the page and inbox for the final result; do not count a code-delivery message as a removal confirmation.

Melissa also describes access and correction choices. Request a copy only if you want one. The form explains that an access report can be prepared alongside deletion and opt-out, but that is not a mandatory step before removal. Different rights can generate separate confirmations.

Verification, alternatives and response expectations

Melissa's California notice distinguishes record matching for deletion from the information needed for sale and sharing preferences. It says deletion generally relies on matching supplied information and does not normally require government ID for removal from Lookups and database products. It also describes exceptions for particularly sensitive requests.

Do not interpret the email code as a promise that every record has already been matched. It confirms a step in submission. Melissa may still need to resolve an ambiguous name or address. If asked for more information, identify the request reference and ask what specific detail is necessary.

The form's published telephone alternative is useful when you have several records, cannot use its location selector, or do not want to use the web interface. Its California notice additionally provides ConsumerRequest@melissa.com for consumer requests. Use the route that fits your request and residence; the general policy and current form remain the starting points.

We did not verify a fixed turnaround promise for every request. Ask for the applicable response window when you receive an acknowledgment. If a deadline is given, retain it with the reference number and follow up through the same official channel. A generic timeline found in another broker's guide is not evidence about Melissa.

Avoid confusing an unsubscribe with deletion

Melissa separately offers unsubscribe@melissa.com for its own email and direct-mail advertising. Its instructions ask you to say whether you want email, paper mail or both stopped.

They also say to contact Melissa again if your name or address changes. That is a messaging preference workflow, not a substitute for the Consumer Privacy Request Form.

If you are receiving unwanted mail, both tasks may be relevant: removing the database record and stopping a sender's own promotions. Describe them separately so you can understand the reply. Fewer letters in the mailbox do not prove that a record was deleted, and a successful database request does not recall mail already prepared.

The Data Axle opt-out guide and Acxiom opt-out guide cover other marketing-data requests. Use them when those companies are relevant to your situation, not because a Melissa request automatically identifies them as sources.

For a provider-by-provider checklist, see the data broker opt-out directory. Keep an individual status for each company; different verification and retention rules make a single “all done” checkbox misleading.

After Melissa confirms your request

Read the scope of the completion message. Does it address deletion, sale and sharing, advertising preferences, or only one of those choices? If you selected several rights, confirm which were fulfilled and whether another response is expected. Retain the original request alongside the outcome.

Melissa's privacy notice describes retention for operational, legal and recordkeeping purposes, including records needed to continue honoring privacy requests. Some limited retained information may therefore be consistent with a completed opt-out. Ask what is retained and why instead of assuming every reference to your name means the request failed.

A new address, a misspelled name or a separate source record can complicate later checks. Record what changed and include the earlier confirmation in follow-up. The broader data-removal workflow explains how to track these differences across companies.

If you also want to find covered people-search exposure, run a free data broker scan. It can help organize next steps, but a scan result is not an audit of all Melissa systems or private customer copies. We have not tested a completed removal for this guide.

Frequently asked questions

Is a Melissa account required?

The public consumer form is accessible without creating a paid customer account. Its email-confirmation process is part of the privacy request. Do not confuse the site's “My Account” navigation with a requirement to purchase access.

Why did I receive a code but no request confirmation?

The form says the code must be entered before submission. Return to the legitimate form session and complete its instructions. If the session has expired, follow the site's recovery guidance rather than assuming the first email completed removal.

Should I upload a driver's license immediately?

No blanket upload requirement was shown for ordinary deletion. Follow the current request-specific instructions. The policy says matching is usually sufficient and identifies additional verification only in particular circumstances.

Can I remove an old address too?

Describe the additional record through the published assistance route. The form specifically directs users with multiple records to its phone contact. Ask how to associate the old address with the same person instead of creating inconsistent requests.

Does deletion remove property records from government websites?

No such result is established by a Melissa request. A public record's originating authority has its own correction or access rules. Deleting a broker's copy and changing the source record are separate tasks.

Sources and verification scope

The official form, general privacy policy, California notice and state-law privacy notice were checked October 3, 2026. The guide reflects public controls and instructions, not a submitted request or measured completion time. It provides practical process information rather than individual legal guidance.
