To opt out of Sterling Data Company, send a privacy request to privacy@sterling.ai.

Ask for deletion of your donor profile and an opt-out of sale or sharing where applicable. Sterling also links a Do Not Sell page, but its form did not render during our October 11, 2026 check. The published email route is the practical alternative.

This guide concerns Sterling Data Company at sterling.ai, which supports fundraising. It does not concern an unrelated employment-screening company. A request to this business also does not remove a campaign's own donor records or change your voter registration.

What information does Sterling handle?

Sterling's privacy notice describes donor profiles used by candidates, campaigns, nonprofits and other fundraising organizations. The profiles can contain contact information and attributes such as age, location, donation history or ideological affiliation. The company says much of its consumer information comes through third-party relationships rather than visits to its website.

That distinction matters if you have never used Sterling. A website account is not a prerequisite for being represented in a donor database. Equally, receiving a fundraising message does not establish that Sterling supplied your details. Ask the sender about its source when you need to trace a particular communication.

The official notice identifies Sterling Data Company LLC and lists the domains within its scope. Use that identity when checking a response. Our data broker explanation describes why a source company, a reseller and a final sender can each hold a separate copy.

Which privacy control should you use?

Your aimRoute described by SterlingImportant boundary
Delete a donor profileEmail privacy@sterling.ai with a deletion requestVerification and applicable exceptions may apply
Restrict sale or sharingExplicitly ask for the relevant opt-outDifferent from deleting website cookies
Stop a specific messageUse the sender's unsubscribe routeDoes not establish database deletion

Sterling describes different rights for California, Nevada and residents of other applicable states. Your location can affect the request that applies. You can still ask what options the business offers; avoid stating that every right applies identically worldwide.

The opt-out guide hub is useful when you have identified more than one broker. It lets you choose a company-specific request rather than sending your personal information to unrelated businesses.

How to submit the email request

1. Identify the correct business and record

Open the official Sterling privacy notice and confirm the current privacy email. Start with the name and contact detail likely connected to the record. If you are responding to a specific disclosure, describe it briefly and keep a copy for your records.

Do not attach an identity document, complete donation history or payment information to your first email. Sterling's notice specifically cautions against sending confidential information through unencrypted email. If more information is needed, ask which detail is necessary and how to provide it securely.

2. State deletion and opt-out separately

A useful subject is “Privacy request: donor-profile deletion and sale opt-out.” In the message, say that you are asking about information held by Sterling Data Company. Request deletion where applicable and separately ask the company to stop selling or sharing your personal information.

You can adapt this wording: “Please locate information associated with my name and the contact detail below. I request deletion where applicable and an opt-out of sale or sharing. Please confirm the scope of the action and explain any information retained or additional verification required.”

This is suggested request wording, not an official form or a promise that the business will grant every part. Include your state or country if needed to establish which privacy rights apply. Keep the request focused on your own data or data you are authorized to manage.

3. Save the request and answer verification

Save the sent date, recipient address, requested actions and any acknowledgment. Sterling says it may ask for information to verify identity or an agent's authority. Its notice says a verifiable consumer request does not require creating an account.

If you use an authorized representative, Sterling may require written permission and direct confirmation from you. Verify that follow-up messages actually come from the business before opening attachments or sending more data. A reply requesting clarification is not the same as a rejection or completed deletion.

  • Confirm that the recipient ends in sterling.ai.
  • Name both requested actions rather than saying only “unsubscribe.”
  • Supply a relevant matching detail, with no unnecessary attachments.
  • Keep the acknowledgment and any reference number.
  • Ask what remains if the completion reply is unclear.

What if the online form does not load?

The privacy notice links Sterling's Do Not Sell page. During this check, the page opened but a usable personal-data request form was not visible. We therefore do not describe unobserved fields or claim that a form submission works.

You can retry the page in your usual browser if you prefer. If it remains blank, use the published privacy email and mention that the form did not load. There is no need to enter your information into a marketing demo form as a substitute.

The cookie banner is also a separate control. Rejecting nonessential cookies may change website tracking, but it does not give you confirmation about Sterling's donor database. If you need both actions, manage browser preferences and send the database request.

For a broader sequence of requests, the manual data-broker removal guide explains how to keep the work organized. Record the route you actually used so later follow-up is unambiguous.

Processing, verification and separate copies

We did not find a universal completion promise in the checked request instructions. Preparation may take only a few minutes when you already know the matching email or address, but processing depends on verification, scope and applicable requirements. Do not interpret a sent email as proof that the database changed.

Ask for a written outcome that distinguishes deletion, sale restrictions and any information retained. If the company cannot locate your record, ask which identifier it checked before sending a much larger set of personal details. If it declines an action, request the reason and any available review route.

Sterling explicitly warns that third-party sources and other recipients may still hold the same information. A political organization you donated to can also have its own relationship with you. Contact that organization separately if you want its marketing preferences or records addressed.

An older public disclosure or a separate broker record therefore does not, by itself, prove Sterling ignored a completed request. Match the company and record before following up. The Aristotle opt-out guide covers another distinct political-data business when that company is relevant to your evidence.

How to reduce repeat exposure

Data can be collected from new sources or appear under a different email, address or name variation. Keep the exact identifiers included in your request. If a new disclosure later points to Sterling, reply on the original thread with the new evidence and ask whether it is covered by the earlier restriction.

Do not repeatedly send new personal details without a reason. Start with the information necessary to distinguish the record. A suppression mechanism may need a limited identifier to prevent a future import; ask the business how it handles that if its response is unclear.

A free privacy scan can help you identify public exposure for a wider cleanup. It does not prove whether a private donor database contains your information, and a clean scan does not replace a targeted Sterling request.

If your records identify another political or fundraising-data source, the Grassroots Analytics opt-out guide explains its separate request route. Follow the provider named in your evidence; similar services do not share one removal process.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the same Sterling used for employment checks?

This guide is for Sterling Data Company at sterling.ai and its fundraising-data notice. Use the company named in your screening report if your concern is an employment or background check. Similar names are not evidence of a shared database.

Can I opt out without opening an account?

Sterling's notice says an account is not required for a verifiable consumer request. You may still need to prove that the record concerns you or that an agent has authority to act.

Will unsubscribing from campaign emails delete my donor profile?

An unsubscribe changes a communication preference with the sender. Ask Sterling separately about its profile and sale practices, and contact the campaign about its own records when relevant.

Does a cookie rejection cover all donor information?

No. Website cookie settings concern browser tracking. Information obtained through suppliers or fundraising relationships needs the appropriate database request and an outcome confirming its scope.

What should I do if there is no response?

Follow up using the saved date and thread. Confirm the address, check for a verification message and ask for status or an explanation. Use an applicable regulator's published complaint process if necessary, without assuming a particular deadline applies everywhere.

Sources and inspection limits

Last checked October 11, 2026: Sterling's official privacy notice and linked Do Not Sell page. The policy identifies the operator, email route, verification conditions and limits involving other holders. Public browser inspection confirmed the contact route; no personal request was submitted and no deletion result was measured.
