DuckDuckGo vs Optery: Prices, Coverage and Removal Workflow
Compare DuckDuckGo and Optery’s current U.S. prices, coverage, setup, matching and support. See which bundle or removal tier fits your needs.

DuckDuckGo vs Optery is a choice between a privacy subscription with device-based removal and a dedicated, tiered removal service. DuckDuckGo Plus costs $99.99 a year in the US and includes other privacy features. Optery starts at $39 a year for Core, with higher tiers for broader matching, human help and additional requests.
Choose based on the records you need covered and the work each plan performs. Prices and provider-defined coverage below were checked October 11, 2026. This is a comparison of public product documentation and pricing, not a purchased-account test or a ranking of measured removal success.

The practical difference at a glance
DuckDuckGo suits a US user who wants its broader subscription and prefers matching information to stay on the device. Optery offers a free exposure report and paid removal tiers, with more detailed choices about matching, reporting and human assistance.
Neither a vendor's supported-site list nor a paid subscription proves that every record about you will disappear. Before buying, identify the sites that actually hold your information. Then check whether the relevant plan supports those sites and your personal circumstances.
| Decision | DuckDuckGo | Optery U.S. plans |
|---|---|---|
| Entry paid annual price | Plus: $99.99 | Core: $39 |
| Monthly billing | Plus: $9.99 | Core: $3.99 |
| Free starting point | Browser and search are free; removal is a subscription feature | Free Basic exposure report and self-service tools |
| Matching and operation | Setup details and request initiation on one device | Service-managed tiers with different matching limits |
| Published scan schedule | Regular rescans; no universal interval stated here | Monthly automated scans and removals on paid plans |
| Human handling | Automated removal process; support for questions | No assigned agent on Core; human assistance on Extended and Ultimate |
| Household consideration | Removal is for the individual subscriber | Check family terms and the chosen tier before purchase |
The comparison topic hub covers other pairwise choices. This page keeps the focus on these two services rather than treating every privacy bundle as equivalent.
What will you pay?

DuckDuckGo's official US cost page lists Plus at $9.99 monthly or $99.99 yearly.
Pro costs $19.99 monthly or $199.99 yearly. Pro adds AI-related capacity; the checked sources do not establish a broader personal-information-removal entitlement.
Optery's pricing page offers monthly and yearly selections. We inspected both. The annual amount is an upfront yearly bill, not a month-to-month charge at the displayed annual equivalent. A temporary promotion was visible but is excluded from this base-price comparison.
| Plan | Monthly billing | Annual bill | What to check before upgrading |
|---|---|---|---|
| DuckDuckGo Plus | $9.99 | $99.99 | Whether you want the included bundle features |
| DuckDuckGo Pro | $19.99 | $199.99 | AI upgrades, rather than assumed extra removal |
| Optery Core | $3.99 | $39 | One-name and one-city/state matching limit |
| Optery Extended | $14.99 | $149 | Name/location variations and human assistance |
| Optery Ultimate | $24.99 | $249 | Custom requests and their eligibility conditions |
For removal alone, Optery Core has the lower entry price. That does not make it the same product as DuckDuckGo Plus: the latter also includes a VPN, AI access and identity-theft restoration. Value depends on whether you would use those additional services.
Optery's pricing page describes a 30-day money-back guarantee for individual accounts. Review the current terms before paying, especially for family or business arrangements. Do not extend an individual-account statement to every purchase type.
The DuckDuckGo removal review provides more product-specific context. For this comparison, avoid paying for Pro solely because you assume a higher price means a larger removal list.
Coverage counts need plan and date context
The DuckDuckGo supported-site page lists 49 entries in the checked article list. That is a list of supported sites, not a count of records successfully removed for a customer. Its documentation focuses on data brokers and people-search sites.
Optery's October 11 pricing cards show the following vendor-defined coverage. The counts differ depending on whether Expanded Reach is enabled. They also differ from some earlier published snapshots, so use the current plan page when making a purchase.
| Optery tier | With Expanded Reach | Without Expanded Reach | Additional scope or limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Core | 380+ sites | 150+ sites | Maximum one name and city/state per user for removals |
| Extended | 555+ sites | 325+ sites | Name variations and past cities/states for the same person |
| Ultimate | 630+ sites | 405+ sites | Custom requests across 945+ total sites, eligible after 30 days |
Do not add the custom-request total to the automated coverage count. It describes a wider request path with different conditions. Likewise, “sites covered” is not a measured success rate or evidence that all sources contain a record about you.
A long site list can matter when it includes a specific record you need addressed. It can matter less if your exposure is concentrated on a smaller set supported by both services. Compare named sites and the type of action available before choosing by the largest number.
Our Optery review covers the service's overall structure. The dated figures on this page are the publication-day check for this pairwise decision; vendor counts can change.
Setup, matching and ongoing work
DuckDuckGo: device-based removal
DuckDuckGo asks for details such as name, age and address during setup. Its help says those matching details stay on the device, and removal requests originate there. The feature is designed to be set up and run on one device.
The browser window does not have to remain open for background work. On iOS, the documentation calls out Background App Refresh. Check those practical requirements before assuming that buying a subscription alone starts a complete removal process.
The service handles confirmation emails from brokers, and support requests use a separate support process. Local matching therefore does not mean that no personal information ever reaches a service provider. We do not repeat a blanket retention-duration promise because earlier help and terms statements conflicted.
Optery: tier-specific matching and support
Core offers monthly automation but limits removals to one name and city/state and does not assign a human privacy agent. That can be a meaningful constraint for someone with prior addresses or multiple name variations.
Extended adds variations and past locations for the same person, human help for special circumstances and before-and-after screenshot reports approximately every 90 days. Ultimate adds the custom-request route and other listed features. Those distinctions are more useful than assuming every paid tier does identical work.
Start with the free exposure tools if you want to understand what Optery can find before selecting a paid tier. A free report and self-service tools are not the same as automated removals included in a paid plan.
What both services still require from you
- Enter accurate identifying information.
- Check whether the relevant sites and country are supported.
- Review unresolved records instead of assuming every request succeeded.
- Keep account and device settings suitable for ongoing work.
- Reassess the plan when your name, address or household needs change.
Geography, household fit and limitations
DuckDuckGo sells subscriptions in several countries, but its Personal Information Removal documentation describes the feature as US-only. Wider subscription availability should not be read as wider removal eligibility. The removal setup is for the individual subscriber, not automatic household-wide protection.
This article compares Optery's US pricing view. Country-specific offers can have different prices, coverage and terms. Check the correct regional page before transferring the numbers here to another country. We do not infer where all data is processed from a company's address or pricing currency.
For households, calculate the actual cost for the people who need protection. Do not treat a device limit, a family discount or a shared billing account as proof that every person receives identical removal scope. Confirm who can enroll and which tier applies.
Neither service replaces a source-specific request to a government agency, event organizer or social network. DuckDuckGo explicitly lists categories it cannot remove, including many original public records and social-media content. A broker's refusal or an unsuccessful automated request can also leave a record unresolved.
The data-removal service comparison can help when your requirements extend beyond this pair. CrabClear is another removal-focused option to assess, but it does not replace every VPN, AI or identity-restoration feature included in a broader subscription. Check fit rather than assuming one service meets every need.
Timing, repeat exposure and the buying decision
DuckDuckGo's help says removal times vary by site, from some requests processed within 24 hours to others taking up to six weeks. It also says some automated requests may fail. These are published process descriptions, not results observed for this comparison.
Optery's monthly automation and roughly 90-day screenshot reporting on the higher tiers describe different activities. A report schedule is not a promise that every site finishes removal on that date. Ultimate's 30-day custom-request eligibility is another separate condition.
Information can reappear when a provider collects it again from a new source. Both ongoing checks and accurate matching matter. Keep expectations tied to individual records and documented status, not the assumption that payment erases every copy.
Choose DuckDuckGo when the US bundle and local matching model fit your needs. Choose Optery when its exposure report, plan-specific matching, human assistance or custom-request route solve a more specific removal problem. If you are unsure what is public, a free privacy scan is one starting point for identifying exposure before choosing a paid service.
Frequently asked questions
Is Optery cheaper than DuckDuckGo?
Core's $39 annual bill is lower than Plus at $99.99. Extended and Ultimate cost more than Plus, and the features differ. Compare the plan that meets your matching and support needs, rather than only each provider's lowest number.
Does DuckDuckGo Pro remove more information than Plus?
The checked sources describe Pro's additional AI capacity. They do not verify a wider removal list. Do not upgrade solely for an assumed expansion of removal coverage.
Does Optery Free Basic perform paid-plan removals?
The pricing page describes exposure reporting and self-service tools for Free Basic. Automated scans and removals are features of the paid tiers. A free report can support a decision without being equivalent to a paid service.
Are the coverage totals directly comparable?
No. They are provider-defined site lists with different tier conditions and request methods. They do not measure how many records a specific person has or the relative success rate of the two products.
Can either service remove every online record?
Neither offers control over every original source or recipient. Broker opt-outs, social-account deletion, search-result updates and original public records involve different processes. Review the exact unresolved record before deciding what to do next.
Sources and inspection limits
If you are deciding whether bundled features matter at all, the privacy bundle versus data-removal guide explains that broader buying decision.
Checked October 11, 2026: Optery's pricing page in monthly and annual billing states; DuckDuckGo's cost page, setup instructions, supported sites, privacy explanation and removal process.
The review used public pages and browser-visible prices. No account was purchased, no personal scan was run, and no removal-performance result was measured. Prices, site lists and plan details can change; confirm the applicable offer before subscribing.
