MaxMind Opt Out Guide: Limited vs Global IP Requests

Use MaxMind’s IP opt-out form, compare Limited and Global choices, and understand service impacts, verification, deletion, and changing addresses.

To opt out of MaxMind's IP-address data disclosures, open its official IP Address Opt-Out form, choose Limited or Global, acknowledge the service-impact warning, and submit from the connection you want covered. Limited retains country-level geolocation; Global requests a broader restriction. The form captures your current IP address automatically. This MaxMind opt out guide also explains why deletion, correction, and browser privacy signals require separate attention.

Last checked October 10, 2026. We inspected the public form and current policy without submitting a request. No removal outcome, processing speed, or effect on a bank or streaming account was tested.

Limited or Global: what is the difference?

MaxMind supplies IP intelligence and fraud-related services. Its opt-out page says its IP intelligence associates an address with a postal code or larger region, rather than identifying a household or street address. Do not treat this workflow as removal of a public people-search profile containing your home address.

ChoiceWhat the form requestsTradeoff
Limited Opt-Out RequestRestrict sale of IP-associated data except country-level geolocationServices can still identify the country associated with the IP
Global Opt-Out RequestRestrict sale of IP-associated data in MaxMind servicesLocation-dependent websites may lose information they use for access decisions
Data correctionCorrect an inaccurate geolocation recordChanges accuracy rather than requesting the same opt-out
Personal-data deletionUse the separate rights route in the policyVerification, scope, and exceptions differ

The choice is about the data use you want restricted and the functionality you are prepared to lose. MaxMind warns that some websites may block logins or other features if they cannot determine a visitor's location. It gives streaming and banking as examples. A broader restriction is not automatically the better choice for every reader.

Our opt-out guide hub separates provider workflows so you can choose the appropriate action for each kind of record.

How to use the MaxMind opt-out form

Visit the official IP Address Opt-Out page. Read the explanations above the form before choosing either option. The form inspected for this guide contains two request-type radio buttons, a service-impact acknowledgment checkbox, and Submit. It does not ask for your name or email within this opt-out form.

The same page also contains a newsletter form lower down. Its first-name and business-email fields are unrelated to the IP opt-out. Do not enter newsletter details simply because a guide or browser autofill highlights them.

  • Use the internet connection whose public IP address you want the request to cover.
  • Select Limited if retaining country-level geolocation fits your needs, or Global if you intend the broader restriction.
  • Read and acknowledge the warning about possible loss or degradation of online services.
  • Complete any security challenge yourself and submit the request.
  • Save the resulting confirmation and record the date and connection concerned.

The page states that submission automatically collects the current IP address. If you use multiple IP addresses, it tells you to access the form from each one you want covered. A request made while using a VPN may concern the VPN exit address rather than your home connection. Check the network context before proceeding, and do not submit requests for connections you have no authority to manage.

What happens after submission?

MaxMind says an opted-out IP address may be placed on a Do Not Sell list available to customers through their accounts. It prohibits using that list for purposes other than carrying out the request. This means an opt-out may involve keeping a limited suppression record instead of erasing every mention of the IP address.

The public IP form does not give a universal completion deadline. Do not infer one from a guide for another broker or from a separate deletion right.

Keep any confirmation and contact privacy@maxmind.com if the response does not explain what was applied. Ask about the exact IP request and its scope rather than requesting a generic assurance that all internet data has vanished.

If the choice causes a problem and you want to reverse it, the page directs opt-in requests to privacy@maxmind.com. Contacting that address is the published route; this guide does not claim that reversal is instantaneous or that it will resolve every third-party access issue.

For a second advertising workflow tied to changing network identifiers, read the Madhive opt-out guide. The two providers' forms and available choices are different.

Deletion, correction, and GPC are separate

MaxMind's privacy policy links distinct routes for access, deletion, and geolocation correction. If a service places you in the wrong location, a correction may address that accuracy problem more directly than suppressing location data altogether. Identify the desired result before choosing a request type.

The policy explicitly distinguishes Global Privacy Control from the IP-address form. It says a recognized GPC signal is treated as an opt-out for information collected from the browser, but does not opt the IP address out of MaxMind services unless the webform is submitted. Turning on a browser signal therefore should not be described as completing the IP workflow.

For applicable California access, correction, and deletion requests, the policy describes acknowledgment within 10 days and a response within 45 days. Other sections address other jurisdictions and response periods. These are qualified policy statements, not a single worldwide removal guarantee. MaxMind may request identity information and may limit requests involving security, fraud detection, or the rights of other people.

The policy provides privacy@maxmind.com and a toll-free rights contact, 1-844-802-0220. Use the designated form or contact for your actual right and jurisdiction. Ask what evidence is necessary before sending sensitive documents, and keep correspondence private.

Why can the issue return or remain elsewhere?

Your public IP address can change. A new connection or a different address may fall outside a previous IP-specific request. The form itself tells users with multiple addresses to repeat the process from each address. Keep a record that identifies the relevant connection without publishing your IP address in a forum or support comment.

Businesses using MaxMind may also hold their own account, transaction, or fraud-related information. Restricting a MaxMind disclosure does not prove that a merchant erased its own records. If you are dealing with an account decision, contact that business as well and ask which data or decision you are challenging.

For organizing wider privacy work, use the data broker opt-out directory and our guide to removing yourself from data brokers. Track provider, identifier, request date, and response separately so that a completed IP request does not get confused with a pending name-based deletion.

If your concern includes a public address or phone listing, run a free data broker scan. A scan for public personal records does not verify an IP-intelligence opt-out or diagnose why a website denied access.

If a location-data provider is separately involved, the Digital Envoy and Outlogic opt-out guide covers a different workflow. An IP request here does not complete that process.

Frequently asked questions

Does MaxMind publish my exact home address?

Its IP opt-out page says the IP intelligence products do not identify a household or street address. They associate an IP with a postal code or broader region. If you found your street address on a public directory, identify that directory and use its own removal process.

Is Limited the same as no opt-out?

No. The form describes a restriction while retaining country-level geolocation. It is a different scope from Global. Read the current text and select the tradeoff that fits your intended use.

Must I give an email address for the IP form?

The inspected IP form used request-type selections and an acknowledgment, without an email field. An email field elsewhere on the page belongs to the newsletter. Other rights requests or later verification may have different requirements.

Can a removal service submit from my connection?

Do not assume so. This form captures the IP address from which it is submitted. Ask a service how it handles this specific requirement before treating a generic broker-coverage claim as evidence that your connection is covered.

Will this erase a merchant's fraud history about me?

The IP form does not establish that result. MaxMind's fraud services, customer records, and legal exceptions require separate scope analysis. Contact the relevant business about a disputed record or decision.
