DuckDuckGo vs Cloaked data removal is mainly a choice between device-based broker removal inside a browser subscription and a privacy app that combines removal with reusable email and phone aliases.

For an eligible US individual, DuckDuckGo Plus is the lower annual entry price at $99.99. Cloaked Individual is $119.99 annually and adds an identity-management workflow that may matter more if you want to limit which contact details companies receive in the future.

Choose by geography, the sources that matter to you, and whether you will use the extra tools. DuckDuckGo’s international subscription availability does not extend its US-only Personal Information Removal feature abroad. Cloaked advertises US and Canada availability, but individual features and account eligibility still need checking. Neither a larger coverage claim nor an earlier first takedown proves better results for your own records.

The coverage entries describe different inventories. They are not comparable success rates, and this article does not rank either service by a cost-per-successful-removal calculation. A source can be listed without holding your information, and a submitted request can remain unresolved.

The comparison topic hub organizes other buyer decisions. The individual DuckDuckGo removal review and Cloaked review provide product-specific context; this comparison focuses on choosing between their current workflows.

What will the subscription actually cost?

Individual plans and annual billing

DuckDuckGo’s official cost page lists US Plus at $9.99 monthly or $99.99 yearly. Pro is $19.99 monthly or $199.99 yearly. The higher tier adds AI-related capacity; the checked sources do not establish expanded broker-removal coverage from that upgrade.

Cloaked’s plans page lists Individual at $14.99 monthly or $119.99 yearly. Comparing the published annual totals, Cloaked Individual costs $20 more per year than DuckDuckGo Plus. That arithmetic says nothing about how many of your records either service will find or remove.

Annual billing commits a larger payment upfront. A card displaying a monthly equivalent does not necessarily offer that price month to month. Before paying, confirm the selected billing period, currency, taxes, renewal terms, and any promotion at checkout.

Couples and families

Cloaked lists Couple at $19.99 monthly or $174.99 yearly, and Family at $29.99 monthly or $299.99 yearly. The annual cards describe Couple as you plus one and Family as you plus three. Check the current eligibility and invitation process before assuming every dependent or household situation qualifies.

The Couple card also displays $14.99 per month alongside the $174.99 annual total. Those figures are not an exact annual-to-monthly conversion. Use the stated total for budgeting and resolve any discrepancy at checkout rather than multiplying the display label into a different advertised price.

DuckDuckGo says Personal Information Removal is intended for the individual subscriber. Each family member needs a separate subscription for their own removal. Two annual Plus subscriptions total $199.98 at the published US price; that does not mean every other feature of the two services becomes equivalent.

Cancellation and billing channels

Cloaked’s subscription help distinguishes direct billing from Apple and Google purchases. App-store billing changes and refunds are managed through the relevant store, so use the channel where you subscribed. The plans page’s cancel-anytime wording should not be read as a universal prorated-refund promise.

For either service, check how recurring payment ends and what happens to ongoing monitoring. Stopping future billing and requesting deletion of account data are separate actions. Keep the confirmation, especially if you are switching providers and want to avoid an unintended renewal.

How much work does removal require?

DuckDuckGo’s getting-started guide asks the subscriber to set up removal in the DuckDuckGo browser using identifying details. It describes one-device operation, local storage of setup information, and regular rescans. On iOS, Background App Refresh needs to be allowed for effective operation.

Its process documentation says the browser window does not have to remain open while background work runs. That is different from saying device setup is irrelevant. Check the dashboard and the operating requirements if requests stop progressing.

Cloaked’s removal workflow starts with a free exposure scan, but removal requests begin after paid enrollment. Accurate matching details matter, including older addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, and name variations when relevant. The service describes ongoing monitoring and repeated requests while the subscription remains active.

Both workflows need the user to distinguish a matching record from somebody else’s information. A dashboard with many entries is not automatically evidence of a large privacy problem or a large number of completed removals. Review record-level status, unresolved requests, and any additional verification needed.

What does coverage tell you, and what does it miss?

DuckDuckGo’s supported-broker page contained 49 named entries when checked on September 23, 2026. The source explains that sites can leave its supported list when reliable removal is unavailable. This is a dated list count, not an independent test of 49 successful workflows.

Cloaked’s help article claims more than 1,000 data brokers and companies, while warning that it cannot automatically remove information from every source. The wider category wording matters. Do not assume each listed company is a publicly searchable broker or that each request can be verified through a disappearing web page.

Look for the sources exposing your actual information. If an address listing is the main concern, ask whether the relevant site is supported and how the service confirms a change. If the concern is a news story, government source, social account, or private customer record, ask about those limits explicitly.

DuckDuckGo describes processing that can range from 24 hours to six weeks, with some requests unsuccessful. Cloaked says successful takedowns usually begin around 14 business days after enrollment. These describe different milestones and populations; they do not support a speed ranking or a completion deadline for your account.

For the wider distinction between bundled tools and dedicated removal, see privacy bundles versus data-removal services. A bundle can offer real value even when its removal coverage is not the right fit for every source.

Privacy differences: local matching and aliases

DuckDuckGo’s removal privacy page says setup matching information stays on the device and requests originate there. Confirmation-email handling and support still involve separate processing. Local execution should not be turned into a claim that no data ever reaches a server or another organization.

This comparison does not make an unqualified promise about confirmation-email retention duration because earlier official help and terms language differed. The relevant buying distinction is the documented local matching architecture and its limits, not a selectively chosen retention number.

Cloaked’s identity guide describes reusable identities with masked email and phone details. Separate aliases let you isolate communications and respond when one contact identity attracts unwanted messages. This can reduce future sharing of your primary contact details, but it does not erase old records already associated with them.

Cloaked’s privacy policy describes information needed for data-deletion services and disclosure to relevant providers to carry them out. It also describes service providers and international processing. Read the applicable feature policy rather than assuming an alias-based app uses the same architecture as local browser matching.

Which service fits your situation?

  • Consider DuckDuckGo Plus if you are an eligible US individual, already want its browser subscription, and value local matching and the supported-source list.
  • Consider Cloaked if you will actively use separate email/phone identities and want that preventive workflow alongside recurring removal.
  • Check Cloaked’s household plans if more than one eligible person needs an account; compare annual totals and member rules rather than only the largest price label.
  • If removal is the only feature you expect to use, compare supported sources, reporting, geography, and ongoing work before paying for a bundle.

The data-removal service comparison helps assess other approaches. CrabClear is an option to evaluate for a removal-focused workflow, but this source review does not establish that it handles every source discussed here or outperforms either service.

Start with a free data broker scan if you need to identify supported public exposure, then review CrabClear’s current plans against your needs. A scan is not a measurement of competitor effectiveness. If aliases, a VPN, or other bundle tools drive the purchase, account for their value separately instead of assuming a removal plan replaces them.

Frequently asked questions

Does DuckDuckGo Pro remove more data than Plus?

The checked price and setup sources do not establish wider removal coverage for Pro. Its additional cost is tied to AI-related features and limits. Choose that upgrade for those features, not an unsupported assumption about more broker removals.

Can Canadian subscribers use DuckDuckGo removal?

DuckDuckGo sells subscriptions in Canada and other countries, but its removal help page still says Personal Information Removal is US-only. Subscription availability and removal eligibility are different. Confirm the specific feature before purchasing from outside the US

Is Cloaked’s free scan enough to start deletion?

Its help article says the free scan identifies exposure and removal requests begin after paid enrollment. A result on the scan does not mean a deletion request has already been sent or completed.

Do masked phone numbers replace data removal?

No. Aliases can limit future sharing and help control incoming communications. They do not remove previously collected addresses, phone numbers, or historical profiles. Removal and alias management address different stages of the data lifecycle.

Can either service erase my information everywhere?

The sources describe scope limits, possible failures, and reappearance. Public records, news, other websites, and customer-held data can require separate action. Judge the service against relevant supported records rather than an all-internet outcome.

Sources and comparison method

Official prices, setup instructions, coverage pages, and privacy materials were checked September 23, 2026. Cloaked’s subscription-management instructions were also reviewed. Price screenshots show public offers; they are not checkout confirmations.

This is a comparison of documented features and buyer effort, not a purchased-account trial or measured removal experiment. CrabClear publishes this article and offers its own service. No customer results, success rates, or unverified performance advantage are claimed.
