DuckDuckGo vs Kanary data removal is a choice between a browser-based privacy subscription and managed exposure support. DuckDuckGo Plus costs $99.99 a year in the United States and includes Personal Information Removal.

Kanary Core costs $250 a year; Advanced starts at $500 a year and offers broader, configurable mitigation. Some Advanced configurations can cost extra.

Choose by the problem you need handled. DuckDuckGo suits an individual who wants supported people-search removal alongside a VPN and other subscription features. Kanary is a candidate when managed support, family or team administration, and risk-specific exposure work matter more than the lowest entry price. Neither provider’s marketing establishes a measured removal-performance winner.

What are the current prices and plan differences?

We checked public pricing and help pages on September 26, 2026. The figures below are advertised United States prices, not a purchased checkout, negotiated quote or verified renewal invoice.

Compare yearly charges with yearly charges: a monthly subscription paid for twelve months is a different total.

PlanMonthly priceAnnual priceDecision-relevant scope
DuckDuckGo Plus$9.99$99.99Privacy bundle with individual U.S. Personal Information Removal
DuckDuckGo Pro$19.99$199.99Plus features with additional AI capacity; no verified wider removal scope
Kanary Core$25$250Managed removal from higher-traffic sources; U.S. resident scope
Kanary Advanced$50$500 baseBroader exposure work; configurations may have additional costs

DuckDuckGo’s official cost page lists Plus and Pro. Pro’s higher price is tied to additional AI features and usage. It should not be described as buying more broker-removal coverage unless the provider documents that change.

Kanary’s pricing page shows annual Core and Advanced cards, a 50% family-member discount and a five-seat minimum for teams. Its product brief supplies the $25 and $50 monthly prices. The pricing table flags possible additional costs for Advanced configurations, including starred options. Confirm the required scope and total before comparing it with a fixed subscription price.

For one adult paying yearly, the advertised gap between Plus and Core is $150.01; the gap to base Advanced is $400.01.

Those are arithmetic price differences, not estimates of equivalent coverage or value. Household and team costs need their own calculation because the account structures differ.

What does each service actually handle?

DuckDuckGo Personal Information Removal focuses on supported data-broker and people-search sites. Its current published list contains 49 entries and is dated August 24, 2026. That is a count of names on a changing support list, not 49 successful removals for every subscriber.

The provider explains that it cannot remove information from every online source. Examples outside its stated removal scope include social media, original public records, news articles and image databases. A search engine may also show an old snippet until it revisits a changed broker page. The DuckDuckGo removal review covers the individual product in more detail.

Kanary describes coverage around a person’s exposure and risk. Core focuses on higher-traffic sources, while Advanced extends into additional source types such as social media and AI-related exposures. The current pricing and product brief describe managed removals, monitoring and escalation options. Those are service capabilities, not a promise that every source accepts every request.

Do not compare DuckDuckGo’s current supported-site list with a broad historical or threat-based Kanary count as though the units were identical. The useful comparison is whether the specific source troubling you is included, what action is available and who handles a failed request. Our Kanary review provides the separate product context.

How much work does the subscriber do?

DuckDuckGo runs from one device

DuckDuckGo’s setup instructions ask for name, age and address and say the matching information stays on the device. Removal is designed for the individual subscriber on one device. The browser does not need to stay visibly open for background processing, but iOS requires Background App Refresh for effective operation.

That setup can appeal to someone who already uses the browser and wants a single place to monitor supported removals. It also creates a practical dependency: the relevant device and background settings need to remain suitable for the workflow. Each additional family member currently needs a separate subscription.

Kanary provides a managed workflow

Kanary describes handling scans, requests and verification work, with reports and links or screenshots that help members review exposures. It offers family add-ons and team administration. Teams can be administered on behalf of members or set up with member participation, depending on the deployment.

Managed service does not mean the member can never be contacted for information. Source-specific verification, authorization and difficult cases can still require involvement. Ask which support and escalation options your chosen configuration includes, particularly where Advanced features carry an extra-cost marker.

Monitoring cadence needs a precise label

DuckDuckGo documents regular rescans and a dashboard schedule but does not publish one universal interval that should be applied to all sites. Kanary’s pricing table includes monthly Core scans and configured higher-frequency Advanced options. A claim of daily monitoring should therefore identify the actual plan and configuration rather than being applied to every account.

Who is each option best suited to?

DuckDuckGo Plus is a reasonable starting point for a United States individual who wants the bundle and mainly needs help with supported people-search sources.

Its price is lower than Kanary’s advertised entry tier, and its on-device matching model is a concrete distinction. Paying for Pro solely to obtain more removal would be hard to justify from the sources checked here.

Kanary Core suits someone who prefers a managed workflow and wants family or team options. Advanced deserves a closer look for a person with difficult or targeted exposure concerns who needs broader source types or escalation. Ask for a written scope and configuration price rather than assuming every highlighted feature comes with the base annual charge.

  • List the actual sites and exposure types you want addressed.
  • Confirm country eligibility for the removal feature, not just subscription purchase.
  • Compare the total for every person who needs coverage.
  • Ask what happens when a source refuses or a verification task stalls.
  • Check the included cadence, support and any configuration charges.

For other pairwise choices, use the comparison topic hub. For the wider category decision, read privacy bundles versus dedicated removal services. Readers dealing with harassment or public-address exposure can also use the doxxing-protection service comparison to separate removal from other forms of assistance. This article does not establish that any subscription resolves an immediate threat.

What are the geography, privacy and outcome limits?

DuckDuckGo sells subscriptions in several countries, but its Personal Information Removal help page limits that feature to United States residents. A local-currency price on the subscription page is not evidence of local removal availability.

Kanary’s product brief limits Core to United States residents and says Advanced can support some people outside the United States; confirm individual eligibility before purchase.

DuckDuckGo’s local matching data should also be distinguished from confirmation-email handling and customer support. Its process can involve those separate activities, and support can use a third-party platform. We do not turn an on-device workflow into a claim that all related information always remains on the device.

The existing source record contains a discrepancy between DuckDuckGo help and terms on confirmation-email retention. This comparison therefore makes no unqualified retention-duration promise. Kanary’s managed model likewise requires readers to review its current privacy and contractual terms rather than inferring data residency from a pricing page.

DuckDuckGo says broker processing varies from about 24 hours to six weeks, with unsuccessful requests possible. That is provider guidance, not a result measured for this article. Kanary also depends on source cooperation and case circumstances. Neither source supports a blanket promise that information cannot reappear after later collection.

CrabClear is another option if you want a dedicated removal service; review current plans and pricing against the sources you need covered. A real limitation is that a removal service should not be assumed to include DuckDuckGo’s VPN or every form of Kanary’s configured exposure support. You can also use the manual opt-out guide hub when you prefer to handle individual requests yourself.

Frequently asked questions

Is DuckDuckGo Pro better than Plus for removal?

The current cost page attributes the upgrade to additional AI capabilities and usage. We did not verify a broader removal entitlement for Pro. Choose the higher tier for the features you actually need.

Can Kanary Advanced cost more than $500 a year?

Yes. The pricing page explicitly says Advanced configurations may have additional costs. Ask which frequency, custom removal and support options are included in your quote.

Which service is better for a family?

DuckDuckGo says each individual needs a subscription. Kanary advertises 50% discounts for added family members. Compare household totals and eligible coverage rather than comparing one adult’s price with a family arrangement.

Does a longer site list prove better results?

No. Site definitions, supported actions, plan entitlements and actual matches differ. Compare the specific sources you care about and the response to failed requests; the public lists do not establish a success-rate ranking.

Was this comparison based on paid-account testing?

No. It is a current public-source and browser review. We did not buy either product, submit consumer removals or measure outcomes, and we do not present provider claims as first-hand performance results.
